Strip story
Cut into strips a simple written description of a family tree and get the students to work together to reconstruct it. To do this, they will need a visual stimulus, for example, a copy of selected frames from the reomation Taku whānau (My family).
For example, using relevant sentences from the reomation Taku whānau (My family), give each student one sentence to read and memorise. Once they memorise the sentences, get them to work together to work out the correct sequence as per the visual cues.
Alternatively, you could let the students hold onto the written sentences while they work together to put the sentences in the right order.
Another variation would be to cut the sentences in half. Get the students to join the sentence halves together first and then get the group to reconstruct the whole written description of Hēmi’s family tree.
