Describing photos
Ask the students to bring photographs of their whānau members from home or get them to draw them. The students can describe their whānau to their classmates by creating whānau posters and adding labels in te reo Māori such as:
Maori vocabulary | English translation |
---|---|
Ko Jake tēnei. Ko ia taku tuakana. | This is Jake. He is my older brother. |
He ākonga ia. | He is a student. |
With resource sheet 1.3, make a set of flashcards (pictures and words) that show people’s occupations. Use these with your students in conjunction with the reomation He aha tana mahi? (What’s his/her job?).
Language tip
The word “tuakana” means “older sibling of the same gender”.
