Cloze
Design a cloze task in which the students fill in gaps in a text about a whakapapa, using a diagram of a family tree as a stimulus. You could use the family tree template on resource sheet 1.4 for this task.
You have some options when you are designing a cloze. For example, you could delete every nth word or a particular part of speech.
To make a written cloze easier, indicate the number of letters in the missing words, supply the first letter, and/or provide a list of words for the students to choose from (though not in order).
To make a cloze more challenging, give out progressive versions in which more words are missing each time. This can provide repetitive exposure to new vocabulary or a new language structure.
More information on adapting a cloze task is also available.
