Flashcards
For vocabulary recognition, make two sets of flashcards (pictures and words) using resource sheet 8.1. You could hold up the picture of the kuia doing the karanga, for example, and offer the students two choices, saying:

Language tip
Notice that “rānei” (“or”) comes after the two choices.
Making the flashcards
Before printing the resource sheets, select "Short-Edge binding" in the printer settings in order for the sheets to match on both sides.
You may wish to laminate, before cutting, for durability.
With the sets of cards in resource sheet 8.1, your students can play the equivalent of such games as Snap, Fish, and Pairs, matching pictures to words.
